After Martin Kaymer won the US Open 2014 by a mile and the drama that ensued, the PGA Tour moves to the TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship 2014 this weekend. The defending champion here is 45 year old Ken Duke. Incidentally, it was the man’s first ever win on the PGA Tour after years of following his passion of playing professional golf all over the globe. Duke’s win last year made the competition a special one for the romantics. The win also highlighted the fact that to win on this course, it is important to find the fairways regularly.
The preceding year also saw Ken Duke putting up great stats for putting and scrambling and for anyone who wishes to win here in 2014, the aim should be to emulate the American. It is also extremely important to drive long and straight this week as there will be a lot of bunkers and a fair bit of water which will pose a tough challenge for each golfer on the field. The course stands at a par 70 6,841 yards which is a lot lower than the norm these days. If one were to make a list of likely winners at the TPC River Highlands this weekend, the list would most invariably include the likes of Brendon De Jong, Brandt Snedeker, Freddie Jacobson, Matt Kuchar, and Keegan Bradley, who secured a top 10 finish at Pinehurst last weekend.
