The Tour Championship Live

We have reached the last stage in the PGA Tour playoffs this week, with The Tour Championship presented by Coca-Cola, which happens September 22^nd to the 25^th. The FexEx Cup continues on the PGA Tour with thirty players heading to East Lake in Atlanta, Georgia for the Tour Championship, which is the final of the FedEx Cup competition. One player who will not be attending this year is Tiger Woods who didn't make the cut this year but will be hoping for a win at the Ryder Cup. The Tour Championship happens September 23^rd through the 26^th, and it happens on the East Lake Golf Club which is a Par 70 and 7,304 yards long. The prize purse for this stroke play tournament is $7,500,000. This is the final stop for the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup which means that whoever takes this tournaments get the title here and the FedEx Cup title. However, only five players that are the top five in the standings have the best chance to win the Cup, with winning this final event. The FedEx Cup by itself is worth ten million dollars.

The PGA Tour continues as players drop off and others advance, and this week they play The Tour Championship, the final in the Chase for the FedEx Cup, at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. The field for this event is the top 30 players that are still in the PGA Tour playoffs playing for the 2009 FedEx Cup. This is important because the FedEx Cup winner receives a ten million dollar bonus on top of the rest of the money he has earned this season. The second place gets a three million bonus, third gets two million and fourth and fifth get 1.5 and 1 million dollars respectively.

Last year East Lake went through some major changes, which included some new greens and another 100 yards of play area. The greens were all regrassed and a few fairway bunkers were added to the course. This changed the Par 4 fourth hole, and it became a uphill 430 yard hole. Other changes affected the thirteenth and fifteenth holes. The biggest was to the Par 4 seventeenth hole, which had its fairway moved and the green was moved closer to the water. There have been eight different winners in the eight times that this tournament has been held at East Lake including last year's winner Camillo Villegas.

The field this year includes Steve Stricker who is currently at the top of the FedEx Cup playoff board, and Tiger Woods who has a total of 4,696 points.
