The PGA Tour will move on to Ohio this week as we pay a visit to a Jack Nicklaus classic. His most famous course, Muirfield Village plays host to the Memorial Tournament 2014. The Memorial Tournament is an invitational event and has attracted a host of top golfers from around the world. The course is a par 72 measuring 7300 yards. While it may not be a very long one, the challenge lies in the quality of a player’s approach on the greens and around it. Off the tee accuracy will not play a major factor here like it did at the Colonial last week which had wide fairways.
At the Muirfield Village, the bombers can expect to just release their arms but it is not that the best driver wins on this course. A lot of thinking, innovation, and perfect execution will be required to win this standout tournament on the PGA Tour besides a lot of good luck. The iron gurus and the players who are exceptional in and around the greens are the ones who have done well at the Memorial. Recent winners have all dominated the stats for scrambling here. The Memorial is one tournament which kick starts the real buildup to the US Open and one would expect the big guns to fire here. Phil Mickelson and Luke Donald will be the men to watch in Ohio.
