The Colonial Country Club will be hosting the Crowne Plaza Invitational 2014 as Boo Weekley returns to defend his title. The Colonial Country Club is known to bring the best out of everyone on the field with its tight fairways and small greens. There will be a lot of emphasis on accuracy off the tee this week with even the best of the tee shots leaving tricky approaches. The preceding week to the tournament has seen Brendon Todd bag his first ever PGA title, ranking first in driving accuracy, strokes gained putting and scrambling on the occasion.
Such stats put Todd in a great position of doing well again this week which will also see Adam Scott in action for the first time since he replaced Tiger Woods as the number one golfer in the PGA rankings. The skills that are considered essential in order to succeed at this course are scrambling and putting besides driving accuracy. The deciding factor could come down to how the players rank on par 4 performance. For those on the field who will be looking to qualify for the US Open which is coming up next, the Crowne Plaza invitational at Colonial will be of huge importance. The top 60 golfers in the world on the PGA rankings will qualify for one of the showpiece events of the tour calendar.

This tournament is part of the PGA Tour and it's been played every year in Forth Worth since 1946.
One of the longest running golf tournaments on the PGA Tour, in fact the longest event on the Tour still held at the original site, this tourney has it's own tradition called the Champion's Choice, where former Colonial champions decide on two young players who they feel deserve to attend the tournament, but wouldn't be eligible otherwise.
This year, players are competing for a $6.1 million dollar purse, with the event being sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts, who is under contract to sponsor the tournament until 2012, replacing B of A as the sponsor in 2006. The defending champion is Phil Mickelson, who took the title from 2007 winner, South African Rory Sabbatini. Tim Herron of the U.S. Won it in 2006 and Kenny Perry took it in 2005, setting the course record for both aggregate points and strokes in both 2003 and 2005, with the same scores.
