Two tournaments are scheduled to be held on the LPGA Tour this month. The first is the Safeway Classic, Presented by Coca-Cola, which is going to be August 19th through the 21st in North Plains, Oregon. That tournament is worth $1,500,000 to the ladies playing. Also this month, the CN Canadian Women's Open, which will run from August 25th to the 28th in Mirabel, Quebec, for $2,250,000. The Safeway Classic was won last year by Ai Miyazato, who had a final score of eleven under, defeating Na Yeon Choi and Cristie Kerry.

Players participating in this year's Safeway Classic include Sara Brown, Amanda Blumenherst, Moira Dunn and Laura Diaz and Laura Davies. Also, Katie Fucher will be playing along with Natalie Gulbis, Sophie Gustavson, Paula Creamer, Sandra Gal, Pat Hurst, Julie Inkster and Amy Hung. The LPGA Tour will hold the LPGA Safeway Classic this week with a great field and some great tournament action. It runs from August 20th through the 22nd and it is worth a million and a half dollars to the ladies of the LPGA Tour. The venue is the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, Ghost Creek Golf Course which is located in North Plains, Oregon. This tournament was won last year by M.J. Hur, with a winning score of 69-69-65=203 (-13) over Suzann Petterson and Michele Redman in sudden death over two holes. This event began in 1972, and is a 54 hole format. The course is a Par 72 and the total yardage is 6546. The field this year includes Amy Alcott, Amanda Bluemnherst, Brandie Burton, Christi Cano, Paula Creamer, Laura Diaz and Danielle Downey. Nicole Hage, Sophie Gustafson andn Sandra Gal will also be playing as well as Moira Dunn, Hee-Won Han, Rachel hetherington and Maria Hernandez as well as Amy Hung and defending champion M.J. Hur.

A 1.7 million dollar purse is available to the ladies of the LPGA as they take on the rest of the field at this week's Safeway Classic. This tournament will be played August 28th through the 30th with Cristie Kerr as defending champion. The 31 year old beat out Helen Alfredsson by four strokes to take home last year's a more than $255,000 grand prize. Alfredsson walked away with just over $133,000 as runner up, and Sophie Gustafson tied as another runner up. Katherine Hull took away a check for around $85,000 as the third place finisher, and fourth was taken by Hee-Won Han. Kerr had 31 fairway hits for this tournament and drove a total of 261.50 yards. She had 85 putts as well.

This event began in 1972, and plays 52 holes. It is played at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on the Ghost Creek Course located in North Plains, Oregon, USA. It's a 6,546 Yard Course, and a Par 72, and has hosted several major golf tournament such as the United States Women's Open Championship, having played there in both 1997 and 2003. Construction began on the course in August of 1990, and it opened on April 1st, 1992.

This tournament has gone through several name changes throughout the years,since it began in 1977. Until 1982 it was called the Portland PING Team Championship, and then just the Portland PING Championship for three years after that. It became the PIONG Cellular One LPGA Golf Championship. The current name began in 2000.
