The LPGA Corning Classic happens from May 18th to the 24th, and this will sadly be the last year you can watch this great tournament as 2009 is the last year it will be played. The Corning Classic is the oldest women's golf tournament with the same title sponsor and venue and has been played every year since 1979. The Corning Company announced that they would be removing themselves from the sponsorship, causing the tournament to be shut down, as Corning deals with its own economic issues, laying off more than 13% of its global workers.

As with most tournaments, the proceeds of the Corning Classic go to charity, mostly local hospitals and camping programs for disabled children. The tournament has contributed more than $5.2 million dollars since its inception.
The tournament record is held by Juli Inkster who grabbed her record in 2003, and past winners have included Leta Lindley who won last year, taking home $225,000. Young Kim took home the 2007 trophy, while South Korea's Hee-Won Han won in 2006 taking her share of $180,000 from the $1.2 million dollar purse. This year, the winner's share is $225,000 out of the 1.5 million dollars in total prize money.
