Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic Live

The Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic is presented by electronics giant Samsung, and is the next stop on the Nationwide Tour. It began just last year, and was played at both the Georgian Bay Club in Clarksburg, and the Raven Golf Club at Lora Bay, in Clarksburg in Canada. The purse for the 2008 tournament was $800,099 dollars, with the winner collected nearly a hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The amounts are the same for this year's tournament as well. The tournament host is Wayne Gretzy, hall of famer in hockey, and the extra 99 dollars is to signify the number that he wore on his jersey.

The tournament takes place from July 6^th through the 12^th, 2009, and one of the events looked forward to every year is the celebrity Pro-Am which is in Thornbury, and an addition this year that is drawing in fans is the inclusion of Charles Barkley. He and several other celebrities tee off against some of the best from the world of professional golf including Gretzky himself, and his wife actress Janet Jones Gretzky. Also on the field will be Damon Allen, a professional football player, Donovan Bailey, Cassie Campbell, of ice hockey fame, Javier Colon, Brett Hull, TV host and sportscaster Bob McCown, Steve Stamkos, and ice hockey player Marty Turco.

The tournament begins with practice at Georgian Bay and Lora Bay on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the first round on Thursday, the second round on Friday, and the final round on Sunday, July 12^th. The Georgian Bay Course is 7139 yards and a par 71, while the Lora Bay course is 7112 Yards and a slightly easier par 72. As last year was the inaugural year, only one person currently holds the title of Champion of the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic and that is Austin Hicks with Casey Wittenberg as runner-up.
