Although the event sees a lot of amateur participation, history tells us that the Senior Open is usually dominated by the professionals. In keeping with the times, the minimum age in order to gain an entry into this event is 50. Allen Doyle is the oldest US Senior Open Champion, having won the tournament back in 2006 only a couple of weeks shy of his 58th birthday.

Kenny Perry is the defending champion in this event and he is looking strong for another go at it. However, the 53 year old American will not be very confident of his chances here as he has never tasted the par 71 course before. Kenny Perry won last year’s Open in dramatic fashion, by five strokes with a closing 63, as he came from 10 shots behind at the halfway mark of the tournament to claim an incredible victory.
