The Senior Open Championship Live

This week on the Champions Tour, the Senior Open Championship will be played from July 21^st to the 24^th. This tournament has a purse of $2,000,000 and will happen at the Walton Heath Golf Club with Bernhard Langer defending his title, won last year along with a cash prize of $315,600. This tournament will be followed by the US Senior Open Championship at the Inverness Golf Club, July 28^th through the 31^st, which was also won by Bernhard Langer last year, and which he will also be defending in.

This year we see some great names participate in the tournament including Noel Ratcliffe and Mike Reid. Phil Blackmar will also be playing along with Jay Haas and Tommy Armour III. This week the Champions Tour will host The Senior Open Championship, while the Open Championship is being played on the European Tour, and this tour, for pro golfers over the age of 50, always shows us an exciting game. The venue is a great golf course west of London that has been around since 1900. It's a Par 70 course that is 6,729 yards long. Charles Challen currently holds the course record at 62. Other tournaments hosted at Sunningdale include the Women's Open Championship and the British Masters several decades ago. Previous winners of the Senior Open Championship on the Champion's Tour include only last year's champion, Loren Roberts, who hails from the United States and took it home with a score of 268 (−12).

One of the biggest and most looked forward to events of the year on the European Seniors Tour is the Senior Open Championship, the 2009 edition being held at the Old Course at Sunningsale. The legends from the European Tournament assemble to play some of the best fold all year long, from July 23^rd to the 26^th. This year, some of the top players in the world have already confirmed their spot and could draw in crowds like the Senior Tour haven't seen in a while.

This year is one of the best fields that the European Senior Tour has ever seen and includes men like Majors champions Bernhard Langer, Tom Lehman, Tom Watson, Greg Norman, Sir Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam and Mark O'Meara. Also participating are previous Ryder Cup captains Sam Torrance and Mark James. More than fifty of the most talented men in European golf will be playing hard to prove that they still have whatever it was that made them a golf legend in the first place. The names that make up past winners of this tournament are filling the list of participants, include 1986 winner Greg Norman, Nick Faldo from 1992, Bernhard Langer who won in 1985 and Ian Woosnam the 1988 winner.

The course has been called one of the best designed courses in the UK, it's foundation put in place by Willie Park Jr., in 1901.
