Regions Charity Classic Live

The Regions Charity Classic will be held at the RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge in the United States this week, specifically in Birmingham, Alabama as part of the PGA's Champions Tour. The purse is a million seven hundred thousand and the defending champion is Keith Fergus, who walked away with a quarter of a million dollars last year. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a collection of Championship level courses that are all located in Alabama, with eleven courses at present. The Ross Bridge course is just one of these, and is located in Birmingham, Alabama. The winner of this tournament last year was Keith Fergus under rain delay, finishing at six under sixty-six to put Gene Jones three strokes back and in second place. Joe Azaki took third in the event, with Jay Don Blake, Brad Bryan, Tom Jenkins, Loren Robert, Tom McKnight, Jim Thorpe and Larry Mize all tying for fourth place.

The Ross Bridge course is 7,473 yards and is rated a Par 72 for difficulty. The field consists of Fuzzy Zoeller, Keith Fergus, Larry Mize, Allen Doyle, Jim Dent, Wayne Levi, Tim Simpson, Peter Senior and Ted Schultz as well as Russ Cochran, Fred Funk, Hale Irwin and Tom Kite. The Regions Charity Classic is part of the Champion's Tour and it is going to be held this Wednesday, May 13^th through Sunday, May 17^th at the Ross Ridge Golf Resort and Spa in Hoover, Alabama. This event has traditionally been sponsored by Bruno's Supermarkets, but in 2006 the main sponsoring was taken over by Regions Financial Corporation, with Bruno's stepping to the sideline due to financial problems. 

Some of the greatest Champion Tour players will be participating in this event, with more than 10 million dollars being donated to Alabama charities as a result of the tourney. The top ten money winners on the Champion's Tour are participating in this event, as well as newcomers Fred Funk, Nick Price and Bob Tway. Well known Champion Tour players Lee Trevino, Bernhard Langer and Fuzzy Zoeller will also be playing.

Since this event is for charity it will also feature various celebrities from around the world including Country Singer Vince Gill, Taylor Hicks from American Idol, Basketball Player Anthony Grant, Tennessee Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher and Football Legend Bo Jackson, just to name a few.
