3M Championship Live

The Champions Tour continues this week with the 3M Championship Live. The Champion's Tour is for golfers aged fifty and older, with quite a few legends coming from the PGA Tour. The 3M Tournament will be held July 10^th through the 12^th, and will be played at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine Minnesota. This year, for the first time, this event will be free to the public, making it the first event on the Champion's Tour with free admission. The tournament also features free parking and shuttles, and this will make it one of the most well attended events on the Champion's Tour of the past few years.

The TPC was designed by Arnold Palmer, who will be joined by some of golf's greatest players, including Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Hal Sutton, Nick Price and Fred Funk. This tournament is one of the biggest of the year and what may be the top Champion's Tour events, last year voted number one event on the tour by the players and earning the Champion's Tour Players Award. These men are competing for a first prize of $262,000 and a total purse of nearly two million dollars. 

The first round begins on Friday and the Greats of Golf Challenge will be played on Saturday. The second round of the 3M will also begin on Saturday. On Sunday, the normal tournament will resume with the third and final round. In the past five years five different golfers have walked away with the trophy, 2004 with Tom Kite. The 2005 winner was Tom Purtzer, and David Edwards took home the title in 2006. 2007 saw D.A. Weibring winning with a score of 198, and last year's champion was R.W. Eaks with a score of 193.
