Yang Yong eun Captures the Attention of Korea and the PGA Championship Title

Phil MickelsonY.E Yang is celebrating his PGA championship along with an entire country this week after overtaking Tiger Woods for a major upset and his first major victory. Not only was the victory huge for Yang but it was also the first major championship won by an Asian-born man ever. South Koreans are celebrating all week long after many of them woke up as early as 4am on the weekend to watch Yang capture victory.

Yang himself moved all the way up to number 34 in the world rankings after starting the year all the way back at number 478. There was also a lot of movement above him in the rankings even though Woods held onto his number 1 spot. He continues to be followed tightly by Phil Mickelson, Paul Casey and Kenny Perry. Henrik Stenson was the big mover as he managed to climb into 5th spot after finishing in 6th place on the weekend and knocked Sergio Garcia and Steve Stricker down in the rankings.

Vijay Singh continued to slip down the rankings and moved all the way to 13th and Jim Furyk embraced a hard fall back to 14th place after slipping three spots on the list. Lucas Glover was another big mover after the PGA championship as he jumped up 5 spots to sit comfortably in the top 15 after finishing in 5th place on the weekend.

While there was big movement all over the place after the weekend, the major story continues to be Yang, the laid back golfer that did not even pick up a golf club until he was 19 years old. The victory inspired a nation full of people and has definitely led to more enthusiasm over golf throughout all of Korea.
