Tiger Woods Claims Top Spot at the Begay Foundation Event

Tiger WoodsThings could not have gone any better for Notah Begay on Monday as Tiger Woods came away with the top price at the second ever Begay Foundation Challenge. It looked like Woods would fall to Camilo Villegas but he surged hard at the end and took over in the closing holes. Villegas pushed ahead with a birdie on the 14th hole to up his winnings to $200,000 but Tiger managed to pull off the next three holes and finish with a total of $230,000.

Mike Weir was unable to get on the board for the second time in the event but was not down on himself considering it is all for a good case. In the end Begay received $750,000 for his charity and Woods got to take home the winning trophy. The biggest finish for Begay was the fact that he birdied the 18th to claim $70,000 in the skins format to make the day just perfect in his eyes.

It was nice to see Woods back on the course for fun considering he is often too busy to take time out of his schedule. He was all smiles though and it seems he has bounced back from his shocking loss at the PGA Championship thanks to Y.E Yang.

The event is put on thanks to a collaboration by the San Manuel band of Indians from California and the Oneida Indian Nation of New York. Begay himself is the only Native American to be a part of the tour and has kept his foundation running strong since 2005. The focus of the foundation is to promote wellness throughout the Native American community and fight diabetes and obesity which has plagued many Native American youth for quite some time.
