Smith and Nephew Sponsor Saint Jude Classic on PGA Tour

Tim FinchemThe medical device company Smith & Nephew will now sponsor the St Jude Classic, part of the PGA Tour, which is to be played June 7th through the 13th at the TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee in the United States. St. Jude's hospital has benefited from all of the money that tournament raises since 1970 and the healthcare organization has received more than twenty three million dollars in funding from the tournament. The announcement was made on Monday that the Memphis-based manufacturer would sponsor the tournament starting this year.

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said that they were very pleased that the company will be sponsoring the tournament and the Smith & Nephew recognized that the PGA Tour's St. Jude Classic was a positive impact on the community. Dave Illingworth, C.E.O. Of Smith & Nephew stated that they were honored to be associated with what he called a “global force for the transformation of children's lives”. The company has been making medical devices for over 150 years and Illingworth also said that there is a strong connection between St. Jude's and their company.

St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital has been treating and researching catastrophic childrens diseases since 1962, specializing in pediatric oncology, or chidrens cancer. The hospital will accept any child that has a disease that they treat with no regard to the family's ability to pay and has made some of the biggest breakthroughs in children's cancer treatments of the last century. The hospital is non profit and offers housing to families that have children being treated there. The hospital was started by entertainer Danny Thomas.
