Ballesteros Makes An Appearance Four Surgeries Later

Seve BallesterosOne of Europe's greatest players made his first public appearance after undergoing four surgeries. Seve Ballesteros attended a race at the El Sardinero Stadium in Spain dressed in jeans and a blue jacket. The 5 time Majors champion stood and waved at fans as they rose and gave him a standing ovation.

Ballesteros has a total of eighty-seven titles under his belt. He won the Open three times including 1979, 1984 and 1988 and two Master's titles. He also captained the tournament for Europe in 1977 at Valderrama and is considered by some to be the greatest European golf champion of all time.

The surgery took place at La Paz Hospital. A total of four surgeries were performed to remove a malignant brain tumor between October and December of this year. The tumor was discovered after the 51 year old golfer was admitted to La Paz in early October after becoming dizzy and passing out at an airport in Madrid.

Although Ballesteros looked cheery as he waved to fans on Sunday Glioblastoma patients rarely survive for more than a few years and sometimes not more than a few months. Ballesteros' wife Carmen was at the hospital during the surgery, as well as his three children aged 19, 17 and 15.
