The LPGA Tour is the most exciting women's golf tournament on the planet and it's happening all year in 2009 with a total of $55,000,000 in prize money to give away. The Ladies Professional Golf Association is an organization for female golf professionals and runs the LPGA Tour which hosts tournaments each week from February to December. There are a total of 31 official events in 2009. Last year the LPGA made a new ruling regarding International Players, requiring anyone who has been on the tour for two years or more to learn and show proficiency in the English Language under the threat of suspension.
The LPGA was started in 1950 by thirteen women that included Babe Zaharias and is the oldest women's pro sports organization in the States. Nearly all of the LPGA Tour events are held there, and this year tournaments are scheduled in Singapore, Canada, England, France, South Korea, Thailand, and China, plus three in Mexico. The LPGA Majors are the Kraft Nabisco Championship, McDonald's U.S. LPGA Championship, The U.S. Women's Open and The Ricoh British Women's Open which is co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour.
So far nine events have been played on this Year's LPGA Tour, one of them the Kraft Nabisco Championship. The first event was held in Brazil in January and ended with Catriona Matthew taking first place. Following that was the SBS Open in Hawaii from February 12th through the 14th with Angela Stanford winning. February 26th through March 1st was the Honda LPGA in Thailand, and Jayai Shin won the HSBC Women's Champions in March. The Mastercard Classic was held in Mexico and showed Pat Hurst winning the first place trophy, with the J Golf Pheonix LPGA International held in Pheonix, Arizona and ended with Karrie Webb winning first place.
The First Major was played after that, in California, and was held from April 2nd through the 5th. Brittany Lincicome won that first Major and it was followed by the Corona Championship in Mexiao on April 23rd – 26th. Cristie Kerr took another tourney in Virginia when she won the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill and the next tourney is from May 14th to May 17th as the Sybase Classic takes the LPGA Stage.
