The Champions Tour is a Tour run by the PGA that allows professional golfers age fifty and up, and is extremely exciting to watch as it is truly a tournament of legends, as some of the greatest golfers from PGA Tour history play in these Tournaments. The tour was started in 1980 and was originally called the Senior PGA Tour until 2002 when the name was changed to the Champion's Tour. The Tour is played each year both in the United States and The United Kingdom.
The prizes for the Champion's Tour is $55.2 million dollars and a new tournament was added in 2008, in the Dominican Republic. Most tournaments have three rounds, or a total of 54 holes, and they have smaller fields. They also don't feature cuts between rounds like the other tournaments. There are five senior majors however, and they have 72 holes and four rounds of play. In 2006 it was decided that golfers would be allowed to use golf carts, except for the five major tournaments and a few others like pro-ams.
The first Champion's Tour Tournament was the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii on January 25th. Bernhard Langer won that one, and Mike Goodes won the next tourney, which was held in Florida on February 15th, called the Allianz Championship. February 22nd, the ACE Group Classic was held in Florida and won by Loren Roberts. Eduardo Romero won the Toshiba Classic in California on March 8th. On March 15th, Dan Forsman won the AT&T Champions Classic and following that event was the Cap Cana Championship, which was the new one in the Dominican Republic. Keith Fergus won this year's event.
Two more events took place recently, the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am and the Liberty Mutual Legends of golf, which were won by Nick Price and Bernhard Langer and Tom Lehman respectively.
