You may not be familiar with the Vivendi Trophy, or officially The Vivendi Trophy with Severiano Ballesteros as before this it was known as the Seve Trophy, but due to a sponsorship deal it will hold its new name in 2009 and 2011. This is a biennial tournament that pits professional male golfers representing nations such as Great Britain, Ireland and Europe, and has held the name The Seve Trophy since it began after five time major champion Seve Ballesteros. Ballesteros was the most successful golfer from the continental part of Europe and was key in beginning the tournament.

Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn will be Captaining this year, as the tournament takes place in the Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Breteche in Paris France. In 2007 Great Britain and Ireland were the winners with a score of sixteen and a half and eleven and a half respectively, Captained by Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros himself. It took place in 2007 at the Heritage Golf and Spa Resort in County Laois, Ireland. It was held in Durham, England in 2005, Valencia, Spain in 2005 and Wicklow, Ireland in 2002. The 2000 tournament was the first and it was hosted by the Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England.

The Vivendi Trophy is similar to the Ryder Cup, played with a European Team and the United States. The Seve/Vivendi Trophy is played with pair matches, with singles matches played on the final day of the tournament. However, the teams are smaller, made up of ten players instead of the twelve that play the Ryder Cup. This is going to be a great tournament and it starts on Thursday, September 24th and you can watch it live by getting your membership. Once you have your year long membership you'll get access to high quality video streaming of the event. Don't miss the 2009 Vivendi Trophy, as it will not come around again for another two years.
