The Joburg Open Live

On the European Tour next week will be the second tournament of the year. We are starting the year with three tournaments in South Africa during the month of January. After the January 5^th through the 8^th Africa Open, the tour will hold the Joburg Open, which happens from the 12^th of January to the 15^th. The venue is the Royal Joahnnesburg and Kensington Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa, and it is worth 1,300,00 Euros. The last South Africa tournament happens in George, and is worth two million and held from the 19^th to the 22^nd of January.

Last year, Charl Schwartzel from Russia ended up as the tournament winner with a total score of 265 and nineteen under. Fellow Russian Garth Mulroy was four strokes behind him and took second with a score of 269. Yet another Russian player took third, Thomas Aiken with fourteen under and in fourth place was England's Jamie Elson. Fifth place last year was Jean-Baptiste Gonnet from France. The Joburg Open happens January 13^th through the 16^th at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa. It has a prize purse of €1,300,000 and an impressive field to start off the 2011 season of golf. This tournament began in 2007, and the course if a Par 71 on both the west and east courses. The 2010 winner was South African Charl Schwartzel with a score of twenty three under. Other winners have included Anders Hansen from Denmark, as well as Richard Sterne from South Africa and Ariel Canete from Argentina.

The field this year includes a huge number of players from South Africa as well as from other countries. One of those playing is last year's champion Charl Schwartzel but Anthony Kang will also be attending as well as Sam Little, Chris Williams, Michael Jonzon, Ross McGowan, David Horsey and Richard Sterne. The Joburg Open began on the European Tour back in 2007, and this tournament is here once again in 2010, as the new season of professional golf begins. There is a Pro-Am tournament which begins the day before this tournament does at Johannesburg, and the Joburg Open will be both a PGA Tour and European Tour event and will count towards the Order of Merit. There is a million and three hundred thousand Euros in prize money to give away, and the field consists of 98 professional golfers from each tour – The PGA and European, and then ten extras for a total of 206 participating in this event. This is an important event for the City of Johannesburg and for the PGA and European Tours.

Your field this year will consist of some pretty awesome talent including Anders Hansen who is golfing on the very first tee on the day that the tournament starts, followed by James Kingston, Darren Clarke, Chris Wood and Richard Stern.
