The European Tour has seen some great golf this season and has seen some surprising players rise up to the challenge of some difficult courses. Just prior to the 3 The Irish Open was the Nordea Scandinavian Masters which was held in Stockholm, Sweden July 22nd through July 26th. That tournament saw Richard S. Johnson take the number one spot, with a score of 11 under for Sweden. Second place was Rafa Echenque for Argentina with 10 under. Third was taken by Edoardo Molinari, with a negative 9 and then Brett Rumford, Mark Brown and Louis Oosthuizen tied for fourth place.

Now let's take a look at the standings for the European Tour Race to Dubai. Graeme McDowell is in first place in the rankings right now with Lee Westwood from England in second place. Ernie Els is in third on the Race to Dubai leader board and Charl Schwartzel has the fourth spot. In fifth place we have Louis Oosthuizen with Ian Poulter in sixth. As of last year, the Irish Open is the only European Tour event to be held in Ireland, which makes this year exciting to look forward to for not only the people of Ireland, but fans of the sport as well. A last minute announcement finally places the tournament in Baltry, which is a course that is smack dab in the middle of Dublin and Belfast, chosen to allow fans from either direction to have the same approximate distance to travel.

It's expected that fans will make the commute as hometown champion Padraig Harrington will be playing. Harrington won the tournament in 2007, when it was held in Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort in Limerick County. Harrington was born in Dublin, and will be playing under the watchful gaze and cheers of adoring fans who are expected to attend the tourney. The thirty-seven year old golfer took the PGA Championship title last year and the won The Open Championship in both 2007 and 2008.
The Baltry course isn't exactly brand new for the Irish Open, as the tournament was held there in 2005, with Stephen Dodd taking home the trophy, and again when Thomas Bjorn won the title in 2006. The Irish Open Tournament has a rich and illustrious history, dating all the way back to 1927, with previous champions including Richard Finch last year, Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia, Seve Ballesteros and golfing legend and fellow Ireland native Christy O'Connor Junior, who won in 1975.

Whether you're a fan of The European Tour, a fan of Padraig or just a fan of great golf, this will be one thrilling tournament to watch, so click on any of the links on this page to get your membership and watch it all happen live. The Irish Open starts on Thursday, May 14th.
