South African Open Championships Live

On The European Tour this week, the South African Open Championship, which will be held for a million Euros and held from November 24^th to the 27^th at the Serengeti Golf Club in Ekurhuleni, South Africa. This is the first of four events that will finish out the season for the European Tour of Golf, the next the November 24^th to the 27^th Omega Mission Hills World Cup which will be in China and worth seven and a half million dollars and then the UBS Hong Kong Open will be at the Hong Kong Golf Club and the Dubai World Champions will follow that.

The European Tour will hold the South African Open Championships on December 16^th through the 19^th at the Par 72, 6,732 yard Durban Country Club in South Africa, holding a €1,000,000 with the winner taking home a total of €158,000. The defender is Richie Ramsay, who took a thirteen under last year, and the man from Scotland is back this year to defend his title. It is also a unique event for these players because this is the 100^th tournament for the South African Open Championship, having started as an exhibition in 1893. This tournament is traditionally won by South Africans, and in fact, only seven players out of the last ninety nine showings have taken home the South African Open trophy. Bobby Locke has won, as well as Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Trevor Immelman.

Both Ernie Els and Retief Goosen are playing in the tournament this week, joined by Louis Oosthuizen, who has taken the other major tournament in South Africa, the South African Open. Richie Ramsay will join these players, having tied last year on the final round with Shiv Kapur at thirteen under, and when they tied it went do Sudden Death, won by the Scot. The South African Open Championships 2010 will be held December 17^th through the 20^th, and this European Tour event features some great golfers. The tournament is in Paarl, Western Cape in South Africa and will be played at the Pearl Valley Golf Estates. The course is 7,319 yards and is a Par 72. The reigning champions is Richard Sterne. So, three players from South Africa will be hoping to finish out their season in this tournament at Pearl Valley this week. The South African Open Championships is the second oldest Open tournament in golf and it welcomes Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen and Thomas Aiken who have had a great year. Schwartzel won three European Tour Titles so far, and Oosthuizen has five Sunshine Tour wins. Aiken is another player having a great season with seven out of ten tournaments with a top ten finish in 2009.
