Beginning on Thursday July 30th the Moravia Silesia Open will get underway in the Czech Republic. This will be the first time that the European Tour has made a stop in the Czech Republic over the last 12 years. The tournament will be held on the Prosper Golf Resort in Celadna, Czech Republic. This is a brand new event on the European Tour and Miguel Angel Jimenez will be looking to make an impact on the inaugural tournament. He has designed the course himself so there is a definite chance that he has an upper hand on the rest of the field. However it will not be a walk in the park by any means as he will be joined by some top notch players in the tour. Familiar faces such as Thomas Levet, Markus Brier, David Howell and Raphael Jacquelin will join Jiminez and each will be looking to prove something and make an impact.

While all eyes will be on the Moravia Silesia Open, most golf fans and even some of the players will be looking ahead at the World Golf Championships next week in Ohio. The European Tour will be in the US for the week. A strong showing at this week's Moravia Silesia Open could help build the confidence for some of these top players to make an impact next week.

July 28th through August 2nd will be the Moravia Silesia Open, presented by ALO Diamonds, with $333,330 Euros going to the first place winner, and the runner up receiving 222,220 Euros. Third prize is around 125,000 while fourth and fifth get around 100,000 and 85,000 respectively. The course is the Prosper Golf Resort, a 7,155 Yard, Par 72 Course located in Celadna, Czech Republic. This is an extremely challenging course, with only four Par 3 holes and the rest all fours and fives. This European Tour event, first played in 1994, features winners such as Per-Ulrik Johannson, Johnathan Lomas who won in 1996, and 1995 winner Peter Teravainen, as well as Bernhard Langer, the 1997 Champion.

This year marks the first European Tour event hosted in the Czech Republic in twelve years. Miguel Angel Jimenez will be playing in this event, and this is noteworthy because Jiminez helped design both of the courses at Proper, The New Course, and the course that the tournament will be held at, The Old Course. Also on the field this week, Richardo Gonzalez who won the SAS Masters last week, David Howell, Chris Wood, Thomas Levet and Pablo Larrazabal. Jiminez may very well win the tournament on a course he helped design, having tied for 13th at the Open Championship, joint fourth in the BMW International Open, and winning the BMW PGA Championship last year. Jiminez has a total of 15 European Tour titles.
Local hero Alex Cejka will also be competing, born in the Czech Republic and expecting to attract quite a few fans, having won on the European Tour four times thus far. Cejka has won on home soil before, taking the KB Challenge in 1997 when he played on the Challenger Tour. The tournament begins with practice and a Pro-Am on the 28th and 29th. The first round is on the 30th, with a round each day until Sunday, August 2nd, when the fourth round concludes.
