Mercedes Benz Championship Live

The German based Mercedes-Benz Championship is gearing up to start and fans of the European Tour are starting to get excited all over the world. Along with the BMW International Open, the Mercedes-Benz Championship is the second of two events on the tour that are held in Germany.

The event originally began in 1987 and was known as the German Masters. Since then the prize money has increase substantially and the event brings in all of the top players on the European Tour each year. The tournament usually consists of just under 80 players and invites players who had won tournaments the previous year or who were sitting in the top 75 of the world golf rankings. Recently however the tour has clashed in timing with the PGA’s Tour Championship which has lead to a decrease in the amount of top players that show up to the event. However, there is still a big draw for the event and a large number of the best players in the world show up to compete and come away with the coveted prize.

K.J Choi holds the course record in the event when he put together a dazzling -26 score in 2003 when he won the event. Since 2003 the event has seen a number of winners from all over the world including Padraig Harrinton, Retief Goosen, Seren Hansen and Robert Karlsson last year. The competition is always intense and the event is one that is taking very seriously by all members of the European Tour and by fans all over Germany.
