The total prize fund for the tournament last year crossed US$2.0 million. Also, the tournament boasts of former winners that include Vijay Singh and Lee Westwood. The tournament is scheduled to take place in February. It will be played at Kuala Lampur in Malaysia and the golf course is over 6.500 yards in total length.
The weather will be close to 24 degrees Celsius and partly cloudy with minute chance of rain. Westwood is also the current champion and will be hoping to reclaim his title. No player has been successfully been able to defend his title at the Maybank Malaysian Open. Bernd Wiesberger will be hoping to close the gap on Westwood at the end of this tournament as he sits on Par -11 while Westwood is at Par -18.
