The tournament will held in China this year at the Dragon golf lake club and will start from 20th December and will continue till 22nd December 2013. The Royal Trophy is a men's golf tournament played between the Asian and European teams. The Royal Trophy was originated following the vision of late famous legendary golfer Seve Ballesteros, his fascinating nephew Ivan Ballesteros and one of the very famous sports entrepreneur Lincoln Venancio who were very eager to give the Asian golf the same growth as was experienced by Europe in the 1980’S under the famous Ryder cup.

With such ambition Royal Trophy was started to boast the golfers in Asia. The championship is fought between the European and Asian golf teams who give their best in the matches to win the tournament. The first two editions of the tournament went to European golf masters who outplayed the Asian golfers but the most historic victory was made by the Asians in 2009 when they were able to win after an exciting fight. This victory is probably the best win by the Asians in the history. Even the last year Asia won the championship but this year Europe is hoping to win back the title.

The tournament began in 2006, and the venue has remained the same for the past few years. The tournament consists of eight man teams which play a total of sixteen rounds representing both Asia and Europe. The format is similar to the Ryder Cup and in fact was inspired by the Cup and is one of the newest of the team golf events that have been popping up since the 1990's. The King of Thailand donates a trophy that goes to the winner and this is a prestigious tournament to take part in, and even more prestigious to win.
