The 2014 Emirates Australian Open will take place from November 27 to 30 at The Australian Golf Club, in Sydney, Australia from 4:56 pm local time. Established in 1904, this year the tournament will have A$ 1, 250, 000 as the total prize money. The total length of the course is 6, 938 yards and has a par of 72. The tournament will be played in the stroke play method.
The tournament record score is held by the South African golfing legend Gary Player with an aggregate score of 264 set way back in 1965 which is 28 below par. The course for that year was the Kooyonga Golf Club. The defending champion is the Northern Ireland golf superstar Rory Mcllroy. The tournament last year was held at Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Gary Player also holds the record of winning the tournament a maximum seven times. Jack Nicklaus is second on the list with six wins followed by Greg Norman and Ivo Whitton with five wins each. Rory Mcllroy is the favourite to defend his title that he won last year by a single stroke. He will tee off in the first round against Australian Geoff Ogilvy and Matthew Jones.
